  1. Study of available geological evidence indicates that it is
  2. more common for our planet to be in an ice age than it is to
  3. be in it's present state.  The duration of a common ice age
  4. is approximately one hundred thousand years, while
  5. intermittent periods, such as that of our own time, tend to
  6. last about fifteen thousand years.  What causes an ice age?
  7. During cool summers in the northern hemisphere, snow at high
  8. altitudes fails to melt.  This build up forms thick layers of
  9. ice.  Because these layers of ice reflect the suns rays,
  10. subsequent summers will be colder as the ice build continues.
  11.
